The Idea of the State and Imperial Rule in the Byzantine and Western Empire in the 9th to 11th Centuries

The present thesis aims to conclude an analysis of political and administative structures in Byzantium and Western Empire from the end of the 9th until half of the 11th century. This was achieved by means of comparison. The author attempted resolve the issue of mutual relationship between the political elite and the ruler and how differences both in the Byzantine and Western Empires influenced the social system. The research included analysis of ruler legitimity, organisation of administration, social mentality and abstract ideas of the state. In the conclusion of this work, the author presented the major differences between West and Byzantium and evaluated future development of both states in regard to internal stability and integration fo political elites. Genesis and development of the political ideas and the ideas of states

The thesis contains the legal theoretical study of two phenomena, namely political ideas and ideas of the state, the rise, development and co-relationship of the two phenomena, as well as their relation to the phenomenon of law in the past as well as in the present (times). The thesis classifies the basic terms and categories of the state and law, contains the outline of the chosen chapters from the development of political and state philosophy, including the classification of the main historical and contemporary political tendencies. It also contains the survey of the basic theories of the state and developmental types of ideas of the state. Consequently it presents the core meaning of the legal aspects originated in political ideas and ideas of the state and individual distinctive questions and theoretical problems related to the subject of the thesis. Finally is the thesis focused on the described relationship of political ideas and the ideas of the state is critically evaluated-assessed with respect to the applicability of the assumed concept in the orientation in political situation of contemporary states.
